Tonight's episode just ended and Amber was the doctor that got cut. Earlier in the episode, Cuddy had told him that he had to pick two doctors. He told her he wanted to keep four with the idea of getting her to "compromise" on three. But, she stuck to two.

He picked Taub and Kutner, who Cuddy told him to pick when he asked for her advice. After firing Amber and 13, he told 13 that if he could have three, he would keep her. Cuddy approached House and told him that she can't let him hire two men - he already has Foreman. So, she told him to hire 13, then realizing that that was House's plan all along.
