From The Winnpeg Sun:

A humble and private man, Laurie winced when I brought up the big dough. He already refuses to acknowledge that House is a hit. "I'm superstitious," he says. Does the big money add to the pressure of keeping it a hit? Laurie, rolled his eyes, hunched his shoulders, looked at his feet. "You can write that the question made him very uncomfortable," he said. So noted.

Hugh Laurie will be a presenter at the upcoming Emmy awards. From Paramount Comedy:

Joining him as co-presenters will be Seinfeld's Julia Louis Dreyfus, Friend's Matthew Perry, satirical presenter Jon Stewart and Felicity Huffman of Desperate Housewives, so Hugh will be in good comedic company that night!

I did a guest spoy over at House is Right, attempting to explain why the supporting cast matters.

But, you shouldn’t use the most essential part of the show to devalue theless essential parts. They are all valuable, they all play their role.Laurie could be like steak. Steak is good, but it’s better with A1. He couldbe like french fries. French fries are good, but they are better withketchup. (Insert your favorite food with a sauce analogy here). The point is, don’t forget the condiments just because the dish is tasty by itself.

Thanks to Cory for inviting me.

Backstage.com reports that Hugh Laurie has received a raise to somewhere around $300,000 an episode. The article notes that the starting pay for Fox series is in the mid 5 figures. Congrats.

Mike Lupica:

Hugh Laurie of "House" not getting nominated for an Emmy is the dumbest possible television thing.

Jonathan Storm:

House got a best-drama nomination, but the man who plays House, and basically is the show, Hugh Laurie, did not.

Robert Philpot:

Winners: Fox's cranky-doctor show House received a best drama series nomination, riding on the coattails of star Hugh Laurie and lead-in American Idol...

Losers: ... House may have ridden Hugh Laurie's coattails, but Laurie himself wasn't fashionable enough for Emmy voters.

David Bianculli:

Start with Hugh Laurie. Though the Fox medical series "House," like ABC's medical series "Grey's Anatomy," made the Outstanding Drama Series cut for the first time in its sophomore season, Laurie himself was snubbed in the Outstanding Lead Actor category. That's ridiculous, since without House, there is no "House." Laurie's performance is too central, and too good, to be ignored - yet it was.

People:

2. Hugh gotta be kidding me
Hugh Laurie wasn't nominated as best actor for FOX's House, and that's quite an oversight. If he's not a best actor, with those baleful eyes and angry snarl and convincing American accent, who or what is? (Oh: To those bummed that Jason Lee of NBC's My Name Is Earl was passed over, my name is Indifferent. I don't get that show.)

canada.com:

House’s Hugh Laurie was a shock omission in this category, as was Gandolfini. Laurie won the Golden Globe earlier this year and was considered one of the favourites to win the Emmy this time.

San Francisco Chronicle:

-- Lead actor in a drama: Peter Krause? (The love for "Six Feet Under" - Frances Conroy also got a nomination for lead actress -- seems dated.) Krause is a wonderful actor and he's a better fit here than Christopher Meloni from "Law & Order: SVU," and even the sympathy nod to Martin Sheen. But without Gandolfini, what's the point of even discussing it? Leary and Kiefer Sutherland deserve the attention, but why no Hugh Laurie from "House," Michael Chiklis for "The Shield," or anyone from "Lost"? By the way -- there's no "House" without Laurie. He is the show. Period.

The Emmy nominations have been released. First, the good news. House received 4 nods:

Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series
House (Autopsy, Distractions and Skin Deep)
Derek R. Hill, Production Designer
Danielle Berman, Set Decorator

Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series
Amy Lippens, C.S.A.
Stephanie Laffin

Outstanding Drama Series
House
Producers TBA

Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing For A Series
House (Euphoria, Part 1)
Gerry Lentz, Re-Recording Mixer
Richard Weingart, Re-Recording Mixer
Russell C. Fager, CAS, Production Mixer

Now, the bad news.

None of the actors were nominated for anything. The only part of this that is really surprising is that Hugh Laurie wasn't nominated. That's disappointing.

There is an interview at tvguide.com with Lisa Edelstein:

TV Guide: Right to it: Dr. Lisa Cuddy, your character on House [Tuesdays at 8 and 9 pm/ET], is looking for a sperm donor to have a baby, and House (Hugh Laurie) has been nixing all the anonymous donors. Will she ask him to donate?

Lisa Edelstein: She walked into House's office, clearly wanting to say something... and didn't. The choice that I made for Cuddy is that she was going to ask him, but then realized that the truth was she didn't want his sperm donated in a bottle — she wanted a relationship. But that might not be the writers' choice. They never tell me anything in advance!
